Giselher studied Law in Göttingen, Munich, Freiburg i.B. and in Chicago. He obtained his Doctor of Law degree in Göttingen and his degree of Master of Comparative Law at the University of Chicago Law School. He earned his postdoctoral lecture qualification (Habilitation) at the Department of Law of the University of Frankfurt am Main. He was admitted to the bar in 1975.

Giselher's particular area of expertise pertains to data protection law. In this field his practice extends, inter alia, to issues of company law (M & A, outsourcing, due diligence, internal organisation, customer databases), to the protection of employee data, to direct marketing, market research and statistics, to banking, insurance, and health care, to teleservices, cross-border data traffic and governmental data processing. He is the chairman of the Committee for Data Protection Law of the Federal Bar Association. He is an author of books and articles on data protection law issues.

Giselher advises on environmental law issues, e. g. in connection with the establishment or expansion of businesses, or related to conflicts of interests with neighbours. He safeguards and reviews compliance with applicable planning and building laws in commercial construction projects, by negotiating with public authorities, by drafting urban planning agreements and settlement agreements between neighbours, by representing clients at public hearings and in administrative court proceedings, and by pursuing abstract judical review and government liability suits. He advises clients on brownfields remediation in cooperation with technical experts. He has experience with official planning approval procedures for traffic routes and has represented clients in inter-municipal legal disputes.
