Bettina studied Law at the Universities of Münster, Lausanne, Switzerland, Düsseldorf, Brussels, Belgium and Hamburg and was admitted to the Bar in 2001. Since January 2005 she is a member of the team of avocado rechtsanwälte. Prior to joining avocado rechtsanwälte she was employed in a major Cologne business law firm in 2001. Since 2002 she worked as a research assistant at the professorial chair for German and European Public Law, Economic Constitution and Public Commercial Law (Prof. Dr. Martin Burgi) at the Ruhr University Bochum, last in the position of head of section of the Research Department for Modernisation of the Public Administration and Public Procurement Law. She wrote her doctoral dissertation on a topic of public procurement law ("consession of services"). The dissertation won the "International Public Procurement Award (IPA) 2006.

The focus of her work as a Rechtsanwältin is the provision of legal advice to public customers and contractors on questions of public procurement law. Apart from issues of anti-trust law in relation to public procurement law she is in particular dealing with a variety of issues of state aids, European and privatisation law. During her period of employment at the University she was co-working on various projects relating to public procurement and privatisation law and published and held seminars in these fields. On behalf of the regional authorities in North Rhine-Westphalia, together with Prof. Dr. Burgi, she published a legal advisory opinion on “regional self-administration” with respect to issues of municipal, constitutional and European law.

Bettina regularly holds seminars in the field of public procurement and privatisation law and publicises regulary on public procurement law.
