Thomas studied Law and Economics at the University of Bonn and has practiced as a Lawyer since 1989. Before joining the Cologne office of avocado rechtsanwälte as a partner in 2001, he had already been a partner for a number of years in a reputable international law firm in Cologne. Since January 2008, Thomas is - besides his legal practice - also managing director of the publishing house Verlagsgruppe Lübbe.

As one of the main focuses of his practice, Thomas provides legal advice in particular with respect to tax and company law issues. In addition, he advises and represents German and international enterprises as to M & A transactions and reorganisations. He provides legal advice to numerous national and international enterprises on an on-going basis relating to issues of corporate and tax law. Further, he has for years advised various clients from the automobile racing scene, inter alia, with respect to sports law related problems.

Thomas is distinguished through numerous publications and appearances as a speaker at seminars concerning corporate and tax law.
